8 Steps to Righteousness by Faith, Episode 7: Peacemakers
The Sixth Beatitude – Favored (Blessed) Are the Peacemakers, for They Shall Be Called Sons of God
The Interpretation
Peacemakers are blessed and are called to be children of God. It means that those who engage in disarmament of people who are in conflict are favored. Being called a son of God means being someone who not only carries on the family name but also bears the family resemblance and reputation. Jesus is saying that as His followers become known as peacemakers, they are recognized as God's children.
In the Bible, the word "disarmed" appears in Colossians 2:15, which says, "He (God) disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him." Those who disarm satanic powers will be recognized as the sons of God who share His name and His mission.
The Relationship to Daniel and Revelation
In Daniel 7:26-28, we see a prophecy that takes place at the end of time. The sovereignty, power, and greatness of all the kingdoms on earth will be stripped away from worldly authorities and given to the holy people of God who will disarm them through Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Revelation 14:14 says that both the Father and Jesus are in the throne room in the temple, and Jesus tells an angel to harvest the earth with a sickle, for the time is ripe. Symbolically, this tells us that everlasting peace is created by harvesting sin from the earth.
Living the Grace Today
In the spiritual sense, disarmament reflects the antithesis of "putting on the whole armor of God" (Ephesians 6:13). There is no more need to bear arms because the battle is already won. He’s coming soon!
